Our route runs the length of the valley along I-10 and Highway 111 — from Desert Hot Springs and Palm Springs through Cathedral City, Rancho Mirage, Palm Desert, and Indian Wells to La Quinta, Indio, Coachella, and Thermal. Can a cold plunge chiller keep up with a Palm Springs summer?
It can, but the desert is the hardest environment there is for a chiller. Air temperatures of 110°F and above are common from June through September, and a chiller works by dumping heat into that air — the hotter the air, the less cooling capacity it has, so units run nearly continuously and some can't hold setpoint in the afternoon. Many chillers also have a maximum rated ambient temperature, and a unit baking on a sun-exposed pad can exceed it even when the forecast doesn't. What makes the difference: a chiller sized for the tub and the local heat, shade over the chiller with plenty of open airflow (not an enclosed closet), placement off hot hardscape and away from reflective west-facing walls, the clearances the manual calls for, clean condenser coils, and a tight insulated cover on the tub. We check all of it, and we recommend annual chiller service in spring — before the heat arrives, not in the middle of it. Rated operating ranges vary by model, so check your manual.
Where should I put my cold plunge and chiller in the desert?
Shade matters, but airflow matters more. The ideal spot shades the chiller and the tub from direct afternoon sun while leaving the chiller's intake and exhaust wide open — a shade sail or pergola usually beats a solid enclosure. Keep the chiller off dark pavers and concrete that radiate heat long after sunset, away from pool equipment exhaust and other units blowing hot air, and out of corners where it can recirculate its own hot air. A closed desert garage can get far hotter than the outdoors in summer, so moving the plunge inside isn't automatically a fix without real ventilation. The unit should be on a properly sized, GFCI-protected circuit (we test GFCI function on every visit; new circuits are a job for a licensed electrician), and a nearby drain makes water changes easier. Much of the Coachella Valley's water comes from groundwater, and it tends to be hard — though it varies by water district and by well, and homes with water softeners bring a different chemistry again. On top of that, dry desert air and heat drive evaporation, and topping off with fresh water concentrates minerals over time. Cloudy water is almost always imbalanced chemistry (pH out of the 7.2–7.6 range, low sanitizer), scale where the supply or top-offs run hard, dust and debris, or biofilm in the filter and plumbing. We test your actual supply on the first visit rather than assuming a regional average, run a sequestrant protocol only where the hardness justifies it, and rescue most water without a full drain.
I'm only in the desert part of the year — can you look after my plunge while I'm away?
Yes — that's a big part of what we do in the valley. Many seasonal and second-home owners keep the plunge on a recurring plan through the summer, so someone is checking chemistry, filters, and chiller performance during the months the equipment works hardest and nobody is home to notice a fault. Every visit ends with a digital service report and photos, so you can see the unit's condition from wherever you are. If you'd rather shut it down for the summer, we drain it, dry it, secure the cover, and power down the chiller per the manufacturer, then come back for a fall start-up before you return — refill, leak check, recommissioning, and rebalance. We can coordinate gate and property access with your property manager.

Yes. Short-term and vacation rentals are a natural fit for recurring service: a plunge or sauna that guests use every day carries a heavier bather load than a typical home unit, and it needs to look and test right at every check-in.
