The Cold Standard is a dedicated cold plunge and sauna service company serving San Antonio and the surrounding communities as part of our nationwide service network. We're not a pool company that also touches plunges, and we're not an HVAC tech guessing at water chemistry — cold plunges and saunas are the only things we work on. We serve the city (inside and outside Loop 410 and 1604) plus the north side, the I-35 corridor toward New Braunfels, and the Hill Country edge — including Alamo Heights, Terrell Hills, Olmos Park, Stone Oak, The Dominion, Shavano Park, Hollywood Park, Helotes, Leon Valley, Castle Hills, Timberwood Park, Boerne, Fair Oaks Ranch, New Braunfels, Schertz, Cibolo, Converse, Live Oak, Universal City, Canyon Lake, Bulverde, and Spring Branch.

Residential plans start at $169 every 4 weeks for our Essential plan (one full service visit per cycle). Premium is $299 every 4 weeks (biweekly visits plus quarterly deep clean). Weekly is $599 every 4 weeks for 52 visits per year ($150/visit effective) — the highest-density residential tier. Pay-as-you-go quarterly deep clean is $375 per visit if you handle weekly chemistry yourself, and a one-time deep clean is $399 flat for a single no-commitment service. Commercial plans (gyms, studios, hotels, spas) range from $279 every 4 weeks (Commercial Light) up to $999 every 4 weeks (Commercial Plus, twice-weekly visits). All recurring plans are month-to-month — cancel anytime.

Standard repair calls are scheduled within 48 hours of contact anywhere in the San Antonio metro. Premium plan members get priority 24-hour scheduling. Commercial accounts get same-day emergency response. Our route covers the city and roughly a 40-mile radius around downtown — from Alamo Heights, Terrell Hills, and Olmos Park inside Loop 410 to Stone Oak, The Dominion, and Timberwood Park on the north side, northwest through Helotes and Fair Oaks Ranch to Boerne, northeast up the I-35 corridor through Live Oak, Universal City, Schertz, and Cibolo to New Braunfels, and into the Hill Country around Bulverde, Spring Branch, and Canyon Lake. Our service call is $170 flat — covers the trip out and a full diagnostic with a written estimate before any repair work begins. Repair labor is $185/hr with member discounts of 15–30%.

San Antonio summers are long and hot, with stretches of 100°F+ afternoons that can run for weeks — and patios, pool decks, and west-facing walls radiate heat well into the evening. That's when a chiller works hardest: the hotter the air around the condenser, the less heat it can reject per cycle, so units run near-continuously and some can't hold setpoint. The usual culprits are dirty condenser coils (spring oak pollen, dust, and yard debris clog them fast), restricted airflow from a unit tucked against a wall or fence or boxed into a hot side yard, direct afternoon sun on the chiller and the tub, and an undersized chiller for the tub and the load. We clean coils, check airflow and refrigerant-side performance, and recommend scheduling annual chiller service in spring, before the long June–September heat.

Shade and airflow matter more here than almost anything else. Keep the tub and especially the chiller out of direct afternoon and west sun where you can — a covered patio, a shade structure, or the east or north side of the house — and give the chiller the clearances its manual calls for so it isn't breathing its own hot exhaust. Keep a tight, insulated cover on the tub between sessions; it cuts heat gain and debris. A closed garage isn't automatically better: in a San Antonio summer a garage can run hotter than the outdoor shade, and a chiller rejecting heat into a sealed space will struggle, so plan for ventilation if you go indoors. The unit should be on a properly sized, GFCI-protected circuit (we test GFCI function on every visit; new circuits are a job for a licensed electrician). Occasionally, yes. Hard freezes aren't frequent here, but they do happen — the February 2021 winter storm brought days of sub-freezing temperatures and widespread power outages across Texas. The real risk is still water: a plunge that loses power, trips a GFCI, or has a chiller shut itself off below its minimum rated operating temperature leaves water sitting in exposed plumbing and chiller lines, and that's how lines, fittings, pumps, and heat exchangers crack. When a hard freeze is forecast: use your unit's freeze-protection or heat mode if it has one (combo heat/cool units can hold water above freezing), keep the insulated cover on, wrap or insulate exposed lines between the tub and the chiller, and have a plan for outages. After any power loss, confirm the pump and chiller actually restarted and the controller kept its settings — some units need a manual restart. If something doesn't come back, call us; we'll check for freeze damage and get it running. Rated operating ranges vary by model, and freeze damage often isn't covered under warranty, so check your manual.

Yes. We service saunas across the San Antonio metro — infrared, traditional electric (heater + stones), wood-fired, and steam rooms — for homes, gyms, athletic clubs, and recovery studios. We handle wood-safe deep cleaning, heater and emitter service, electrical and controls repair, and recurring hygiene maintenance. All brands, including Sun Home, Clearlight, Sunlighten, Harvia, Finnleo, and custom-built rooms.

Our Sauna Tune-Up & Inspection is $149 flat — a wood-safe interior clean, heater/emitter inspection, electrical and controls check, and a digital report with photos. The Sauna Deep Clean & Wood Care is $249 flat — everything in the tune-up plus a full hygiene deep clean, sweat-stain treatment, paraffin bench treatment, and heater stone service. Sauna repair is a $170 service call (trip + first hour), then $185/hr. Commercial rooms and recurring hygiene plans are quoted per facility.

We use only manufacturer-approved, wood-safe cleaners (never bleach, ammonia, or abrasives that damage cedar and hemlock or void your warranty), and we document every visit with photos.

Hard water is usually part of the story. SAWS draws much of its supply from the Edwards Aquifer, a limestone aquifer, and San Antonio-area water is widely known for being hard — the calcium and magnesium that come with it leave white scale on shells, sensors, and heat exchangers, and make pH harder to hold. Supply varies across the metro, and Hill Country homes on private wells can run softer or much harder depending on the well. Homes with water softeners bring a different chemistry again. Cloudy water is almost always imbalanced chemistry (pH out of the 7.2–7.6 range, low sanitizer), scale where the supply runs hard, or biofilm in the filter and plumbing. We test your actual supply on the first visit rather than assuming a regional average, run a sequestrant protocol where the hardness justifies it, and rescue most water without a full drain.

We service gyms, recovery studios, athletic clubs, boutique fitness facilities, chiropractor offices, med spas, hotels, and corporate wellness rooms — from downtown and the Pearl to Stone Oak, the north side, and out to Boerne and New Braunfels. With a large military community around Joint Base San Antonio, the metro has no shortage of performance- and recovery-focused training facilities, and those are exactly the kind of high-use rooms our commercial plans are built for. Commercial plans include compliance-grade documentation (water test logs, chiller inspection records, photo before/after), annual staff training, and 30% off repair work. Facilities that run both plunges and saunas can bundle both under one vendor and one visit.

Every visit includes: water chemistry test (pH, free chlorine, total alkalinity, calcium hardness, temperature), chemical balancing and sequestrant dosing as needed for your supply, filter inspection and cleaning or replacement, chiller and compressor health check (including condenser coils and airflow through the hot months), surface cleaning, scale and biofilm prevention, pump and circulation inspection, and a detailed digital service report sent to you after we leave.

Yes. Initial setup, commissioning, and first-fill chemistry are handled by our team. If you've just purchased a plunge, we run a comprehensive initial setup visit that covers placement (including shade, chiller airflow, and heat exposure for outdoor units and ventilation for indoor ones), electrical check, plumbing, first water fill and balance for your supply's hardness, chiller commissioning, and a complete owner walkthrough — including what to do when a hard freeze or power outage is in the forecast.

Pool techs are trained on chlorinated 80°F+ water in large-volume pools/spas. Cold plunges run at 38–55°F year-round with concentrated bather load and chiller equipment that pool techs aren't certified to touch (refrigerant work is EPA-regulated). In San Antonio that means holding near-40-degree water through 100-degree afternoons on hard water — a different job from keeping a pool swimmable. The chemistry, equipment, and failure modes are all different. We do only this — cold plunges and saunas — that's why our reports, parts inventory, and diagnostic playbook all match the specifics.

Yes. Saltwater plunges require titanium or marine-grade heat exchanger inspection, more frequent gasket and seal checks, and different sanitizer-balance logic. We carry the right test kits and replacement parts for both setups — brand doesn't matter, we calibrate the visit to your water chemistry and your supply's hardness profile, whether that's SAWS water or a Hill Country well.
