Is this a license or an accredited certification?
No. Cold Standard Certified is a professional credential issued by The Cold Standard, an independent service company. It is not a government license, it is not accredited by a third-party body, and it does not replace any license, permit or certification your state, county or trade requires (for example EPA 608 for opening a sealed refrigerant circuit, or an electrical license).
Which credential should I take?
Front-desk, attendant and floor staff: CSFA (about 2 hours). The lead or manager responsible for the equipment: CSFO (about 8.5 hours). Technicians who service saunas: CSST (about 10 hours). Technicians who service cold plunges and chillers: CSCT (about 20 hours required). Techs who do both often take the CSCT + CSST bundle.
Is it tied to a brand, or to working for The Cold Standard?
Neither. The courses are vendor-neutral and teach that the manufacturer's published spec always wins. No manufacturer endorses the credential and it is not affiliated with any manufacturer. You don't need to work for or with The Cold Standard, and holding the credential doesn't obligate you to anything.
I'm already experienced. Do I have to sit through everything?
No. Every module quiz can be attempted before you read the lessons. Pass with 80% or higher on your first try and that module is marked complete. You still take the final exam and, for CSCT and CSST, the practical capstone.
What is the exam like?
A timed, server-graded online exam monitored in the browser — not webcam or room-scan proctoring. 80% passes. Your first two attempts are included with enrollment; see the candidate handbook for retake rules.
How do team seats work?
Buy seats for a course, share one join link with your staff, and they enroll free against your seats from their own phones. A private manager dashboard shows who has joined, their progress and certificate status, and lets you send reminders. Team details →
How long is a credential valid?
Every credential is valid for 24 months, then renews with a short recertification. Anyone can check a credential's current status on the public verification page.
